Real estate photography for Oshawa listings

Brick two-storey home with covered front porch and double garage, Arborwood Drive, Taunton, Oshawa

Modern Media for the Modern Agent. In the past twelve months Homes in Focus Inc. photographed 129 Oshawa listings, roughly one every few days, all from our base next door in Whitby. That count runs from a 1970s high-rise downtown to a brand-new tower near the Ontario Tech and Durham College campus and family homes on streets named after racehorses. Each kind of home needs a different shoot, so here's how we handle them.

Downtown condos at McLaughlin Square

Downtown's McLaughlin Square, at William and Richmond, went up in 1977 and stands 13 storeys. The suites are larger and older than anything going up today, and many open onto a long south-facing balcony over the courtyard. We shoot for the size of the rooms and the daylight, keeping the windows bright so buyers see the view. When the agent asks, we photograph the pool and shared spaces too.

North Oshawa and the Windfields streets

Lounge with fireplace wall and pendant lights, amenity floor at U.C. Tower 2, Oshawa

North of the university, the streets on the former Windfields Farm carry the names of its horses. Northern Dancer was born on the farm in 1961, and in June we shot a family home on Northern Dancer Drive with photos, a cinematic video tour and a walk-through reel. The agent asked for a classy edit without flashy transitions, which is exactly how we like to cut a house like that.

A few minutes away, U.C. Tower 2 on Simcoe Street North is all new. The suites are compact, so the amenity floor does a lot of the selling. For a one-bedroom there this summer we came back for a second visit just to photograph the building's shared spaces, and those shots ended up in the listing beside the suite.

Drone flights near the Oshawa airport

Drone view over the backyards of a semi-detached home on Durham Court, Vanier, Oshawa, in autumn

Oshawa Executive Airport sits in the city's northwest, and the controlled airspace around it covers a lot of homes. Every flight is handled by Transport Canada certified drone pilots, and inside that airspace each one also needs NAV CANADA authorization through NAV Drone. Requests that go to manual review can take about a week. The Durham Court semi above was about 2.35 nautical miles from the airport, so we had approval in hand before the shoot day. If you're listing on the west or north side and want aerials, book early.

Oshawa FAQ

How fast do I get photos for an Oshawa listing?

Photos are usually ready by 9 AM the morning after the shoot, and floor plans within 24 hours.

Can you shoot a condo building's amenities?

Yes. Add a note when you book listing the amenities, the floor, and how to get access. The shooter will capture them alongside the suite, or on a second visit if the spaces are booked that day.

Is drone possible near Oshawa Executive Airport?

Usually it is. Homes inside the airport's controlled airspace need NAV CANADA authorization first, so leave extra lead time when you order drone.
